This is the busiest summer I have had in at least the last 15 years. I am certainly not complaining. Instead, I am so thankful that God in His grace has chosen to continue to use me. I am equally thankful for the opportunity to serve our churches as they continue to seek ways to be on mission together with God.
Here are a few of the things that have been going on in recent weeks in your association:
At our April 21st Executive Committee Meeting, our churches voted unanimously and with great joy to call Isai Guevara to be the church planter and pastor of our new Hispanic mission church. This church plant has been an ongoing work for the past two years. The new mission church will be housed at the site of the former Leesburg Baptist Church which closed in January of 2023. When the church closed, they gave the building and property to the Association. This is a great site that provides an excellent location and opportunity to start this much needed work in our Association. This new work will require the prayers, resources, and support of all our churches as we partner together to reach the ever-growing Hispanic population in our area with the Gospel. Please pray daily for Bro. Isai and his family as he plants and pastors the Jesucristo Salva Bautista Iglesia. In our English language it is the Jesus Christ Saves Baptist Church.
For the past two months, I have regularly crisscrossed our Association visiting Vacation Bible Schools. It has been so much fun and a tremendous blessing to visit 26 of the 27 churches that conducted VBS. I am eager to see the final report of what has happened in VBS this summer.
Also, I have been working on a Christmas Backpack Partnership Distribution Event. This year we will be partnering with the Wyatt Baptist Church in Holly Springs, Mississippi. More details will be available later. Collection for the Backpacks is October 13-16.
It is an exciting and busy time for our churches as “We Work Best When We Work Together and We Do Best What We Do Together.”
