October 1, 2022
On October 17, the family of churches that make up the Cherokee Baptist Association will gather at Noah Baptist Church for our 189th Annual Meeting. Over the years, associational annual meetings have changed a great deal. I still vividly remember the days when these meetings lasted two days, then they became a long afternoon and evening event. Next, they were changed to a brief afternoon and evening meeting. Now, annual meetings in associations all across the state — our association included — have become a one evening meeting. Regardless of all the changes that these meetings have undergone, the primary purpose and focus still remain.
First, it is a time of fellowship and celebration. It is a sweet time of seeing those faithful folks from our partnering churches. Also, we gather to celebrate the work of God in our churches and the ministries that are supported in the association.
Secondly, it is a time of review. As we look at the numerical data that is provided in the “Book of Reports,” we see what areas of our churches that need our attention. In many ways these numbers reveal whether we are healthy as churches or if we are unhealthy.
Thirdly, it is a time of instruction and information. This time is used to launch new ministries and introduce new strategies. It is also a time of being informed about many opportunities that are available to your church as well as hearing about the many good things we are doing together.
Lastly, it is a time of worship and inspiration. This year we are honored and privileged to have Dr. Buddy Champion as our guest speaker. Bro. Buddy is the pastor of the great First Baptist Church, Trussville, AL and he is currently serving as the President of our Alabama Baptist State Convention. Bro. Buddy is an outstanding preacher and pastor who loves pastors and has a burden for the local church.
So, I look forward to seeing our messengers, guests, and many others for a great night of worship, fellowship, review, and instruction at our 189th Annual Meeting.
