As spring is winding down and summer is just ahead, there are several days we celebrate and ministries we are involved in. The first one is Mother’s Day. I thank God for the wonderful mother that I had. Though she has been in Heaven for a number of years, I still miss her and cherish the sweet memories I have of her. It has been said “A godly mother is a godly gift.” I thank God for our godly mothers.
Next is graduation. From pre-school and kindergarten all the way through high school and college, millions of children, teens, and young adults are moving on to a new phase of life. It is very important as churches that we pray for them and minister to them. Most importantly, we should always be seeking to reach the next generation with the Gospel.
On May 27th, we will celebrate Memorial Day. For many this is just a day off from work or a day to kick off summer activities; but, this day is set aside to remember those who served in the military and gave their lives so each of us could enjoy the freedom and liberty we have. Let us give thanks to God for those who served and died to secure the rights and freedom we have.
On June 16th, we will celebrate Father’s Day. Everyday of my life I live out the values and virtues that my father instilled in me. One of the greatest blessings in life is to be a father and now for me to be a granddaddy to my beautiful and precious grandchildren. However, the greatest blessing and gift in life is to have a relationship with my Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally and gave His own Son for me.
Finally, summer time is Vacation Bible School time for many of our churches. VBS is the one ministry that is cross generational in our churches. It involves all ages either through serving in VBS or by those of all ages who attend VBS. So, let me encourage you to put your best efforts into VBS and impact your church and community. May the coming weeks be a blessing for you, and also provide opportunities for you to be a blessing to others.
