October 2024

One of my favorite gospel songs is “The Family of God,” written in 1970 by Bill and Gloria Gaither. This song presents one of several depictions and descriptions found in the New Testament that refers to the church. A family is certainly loving, caring, supportive, and a place where we belong. In our churches and in our Christian lives, we often refer to each other as brother or sister. We all share a common birth with salvation made possible by the cleansing blood of Jesus, and we all have the same Heavenly Father. Thus, we are all a part of the wonderful Family of God.

Oftentimes, I refer to the churches of the Cherokee Baptist as a family of churches. I believe this is not only an accurate statement but also a beautiful picture of our churches. On October 21, at 6:00 PM, our family of churches will come together at Pleasant Arbor for a family reunion: the Annual Meeting of the Cherokee Baptist Association. This meeting serves to inform, instruct, and inspire us as the family of churches that lovingly and faithfully comprise the Cherokee Baptist Association. Reports will be presented to inform us of how God is actively at work across our Association and how His people are remaining faithful. We will also learn about the great work of missions and ministries provided through the Association, as well as be instructed how you can be involved and benefit from these opportunities. Lastly, we will be inspired by our time of fellowship and worship.

Bro. Jarman Leatherwood, pastor of the House of Hope and Restoration in Huntsville, Alabama, will be preaching for us that night. In addition, Bro. Jarman serves as the First Vice President of the Alabama Baptist State Convention. He is a sweet-spirited and humble man of God, being used in a mighty way. I know we will be inspired and encouraged by his message. I look forward to seeing our messengers, associational leaders, pastors, and many others from the family of our churches as we gather for our 191st Annual Meeting. It is my prayer that we will leave this meeting informed, instructed, and inspired to serve the Lord as never before.

I am thankful for the privilege to serve as your Associational Missionary.
